Appalachian Madonna and Child is inspired by the iconic images from the Renaissance which depict the sacred role of motherhood.
This piece portrays the evolution of that role in Appalachia, where misplaced morality has caused birth rates to soar amongst young girls without the maturity to decide their own fates.
